Junior Achievement golf outing raises $15,000

A Modern Woodmen fundraiser for Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio turned into a rousing success earlier this month.

Modern Woodmen of America members in Mansfield recently helped raise money for Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio with a special fundraising event on Aug. 13.

The event, which included a golf outing, raised $15,000. This includes $2,500 matched by Modern Woodmen through the organization’s Matching Fund Program. The funds will be used to help Junior Achievement’s Virtual Inspire Career Exploration program for grades 7 to 12.

The Matching Fund Program offers Modern Woodmen members nationwide the chance to show their support for a community cause, organization or individual in need through fundraisers. These fundraising projects contribute more than $10 million to community needs across the country each year.

“The community truly came together to support a local need,” says Lauren Brown, local Modern Woodmen volunteer leader. “That support is what it’s all about.”

Coordinated by local Modern Woodmen members, the fraternal financial services organization’s Summit chapters, chapters and youth service clubs provide opportunities for members to take part in social and educational activities and volunteer projects to meet local needs.

“I love giving back to the community. It’s one of my favorite parts of working for Modern Woodmen,” said Brown. “This event is special for me and I am extremely honored to give back to Junior Achievement because what they do is truly amazing and so important. Modern Woodmen believes strongly in giving back to the community and in financial literacy, so we are excited to provide matching funds for the JA Golf Classic!”

In the end, Scott Dawson’s team placed first and Jack Trachtenberg’s foursome came in second.

This was the final golf event for the JA of North Central Ohio (NCO) office. Covering 15 Ohio counties, NCO impacted 14,450 kindergartners through high school seniors during the 2020-21 academic year with vital personal finance education and work readiness skill development. In total, golf outings in Stark, Summit and Richland counties this summer raised a total of $85,903.

These funds will continue to fill gaps in student financial education and workforce placement as NCO prepares to relaunch their virtual career exploration fair, JA Inspire, on Dec. 1, 2021.
